The images in my paintings are semblance with the real life situation. These are reflection of my imagination which were stored deep inside my sub consciousness as an artist.

 


Musicians

Folk music is a vital part of Rajasthan.
Folk songs are commonly ballads which relate heroic deeds, love stories, & 
religious themes accompanied by musical instruments like dholak, sitar, sarangi, flute, ravanhatta. These musicians wearing white dresses & colorful turbans are playing local folk songs seated on an embroidered bedspread. The background of the fort of Rajasthan , reflects history & culture.
 


Evening in Verandah

In the villages of Rajasthan, it is a very
common sight ,after finishing cooking,
women gathered together for chatting in someone's house. Sitting in a verandah,
they discuss about their family, coming festival, daily routine. Verandah is a place where they keep water pots, dry their cloths, etc. In this painting saris & odhnis , are great delight to see, in black &red attire dotted with orange which is worn throughout the year despite incapacitating heat of the summer.
 


Fetching Water

Fetching water over long distances in
the early hours of morning is a way of life in Rajasthan. The woman is passing through a village street .The houses, doors or windows do not escape decoration. Perfection is not the aim, but rather to give every aspect of life as much colour as possible.
 


Colorful Attire

The young Jodhpuri merchant is
shown his finest attire and in the exotically colored clothing, from their handsome turbans, through hand printed or tie-dyed shawls to vividly patterned, embroidered shoes. The turban holds special position in their attire, as it differs for different castes and regions.

As a desert land of seasonal beauty, thorn bushes, always thrilling sight to meet baggage camels, with the tall red-turbaned & attired shepherds. Many a beast of burden is decorated with a lively array of auspicious designs. These paintings shows the richness of warm colors.

This young girl is dressing up in
front of a wooden traditional mirror. She
is doing up her hair in plaits. The green and yellow stand is where she keeps her ornaments. Her posture and cool colour combination used gives it a delicate feel of the morning.
  
 


Blue Turban  (IA0020)
A very traditional Rajasthani portrait
of a man who wears a blue turban. Turban is a essential part of their clothing. Traditional costumes with red shawl, embroidered shoes, bright colors is a very common sight in Rajasthan. He is not averse to wearing necklaces, earrings and chokers, often of silver. His features and appearance depicts his strong personality.

 


Hukkaman of Rajasthan

“Hukka” is a traditional smoking pipe of Rajasthan – usually considered as a status symbol of the rich landlords Jamindars) of Rajasthan.Thakurs were known for smoking these kinds of pipes.Our Hukkaman in this picture belongs to an upper strata of society, leisurely drinking hukka at home.


Portrait of Rajasthani Girl

This young rabari shephered girl well
decorated with silver ornaments. On the forehead rests the 'Tikka'. Also dangling earrings known as 'Jhumkas', around the neck a collection of beaded and thread bands is crowned by most impressive ornament, worn invariably be pierced & may bear a small jewelled or silver stud, known as 'Nathu'.

 


Desert of Rajasthan

The vast stretches of land, in Rajasthan
known as deserts are covered with golden sand and wild bushes. Vegetation is scanty here due to low rainfall. Camel is the main means of transport for these people. Inspite of the hot and arid climate, it survives in the desert, because he can go without water for many days.


A Rajput Merchant (IA024)
An old Rajput merchant wearing a sacred red and black thread with a golden pendant of God. This is a typical portrait of Rajasthani man. The background demonstrates a palace of Jodhpur. There are several royal palaces and castles in Rajasthan, carving made on them usually depict an elephant or a camel.
 


Famine (IA025)
Rajasthan has a acute water shortage.
Therefore people in this state always yearn for water and rainfall. Inspite of facing so many hardships, the spirit of these people is always  optimistic and cheerful. They belongs to this desert, fashions their coloured garments in imitation of nature's primordial colours.
